The Ink Business Unlimited® is one of the best business credit cards for startup and small-business owners looking to invest in their companies. With a 0% introductory APR for 12 months, a generous welcome bonus, and a flat-rate 1.5% cash back on business purchases, this card’s only downside is its relatively short list of perks and benefits.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for Chase’s Ink Business Unlimited®, the ideal candidate needs to be in the “prime” lending category with a credit score of at least 670. Still, note that this rule isn’t set in stone, as the card issuer will also take your company’s annual income and monthly cash flow into account when evaluating your application.

APR

If you’re on the hunt for instant-approval business credit cards that will help you finance a new venture, the Ink Business Unlimited® card is a great choice. In addition to a quick approval process, this business card offers a 0% introductory APR for 12 months, so you can start investing in your business without having to worry about paying the interest off right away. After that, you’ll face an ongoing variable APR between 13.24% and 19.24% for purchases and balance transfers. Note that there’s also the 24.99% APR for cash advances and the 29.99% penalty APR.

Fees

As one of the best credit cards for a  small business, Ink Business Unlimited® doesn’t charge an annual fee. On the downside, there’s a 3% foreign transaction fee. Balance transfers and cash advances cost either 5% or $5, and 5% or $15, whichever is greater, respectively. Late and returned payments both cost $39 per item. Additional employee cards that can earn benefits for the principal account holder are issued free of charge.

Rewards

The main benefit of this Chase credit card is the 1.5% cash back it offers on all purchases. As the card’s name suggests, not only do purchases in all spending categories earn you rewards, there’s no limit on the total purchase value, either. To top things off, as one of the most lucrative cash back business credit cards, the Ink Business Unlimited® can get you a one-time $500 cashback reward if you manage to spend at least $3,000 within three months of account opening.

You can apply the rewards toward your balance, get a direct cash deposit, make travel arrangements, purchase Apple devices, or turn the rewards into gift cards.

Benefits and Perks

While the Ink Business Unlimited® card may not have the same features as Chase’s more premium solution, Ink Business Preferred®, it still comes with its own set of useful benefits. To secure its spot among the top business credit cards, the Ink Business Unlimited® offer includes complimentary auto-rental insurance, purchase protection on covered items of up to $10,000 per claim, and a one-year extended warranty on items with eligible warranties of three years or less.

Users also enjoy the Ink mobile app, which features real-time purchase alerts, account usage tracking, and purchasing limit settings.

Eligibility Requirements

Capital One Spark Cash for Business has slightly above-average FICO credit-rating requirements. To be on the safe side, you need a credit score of at least 690, well into the “Good” category. This is no guarantee, however – as with other cards, your overall financial circumstances may also be considered, along with your credit.

APR

While most credit cards for business owners come with a lower introductory APR, that isn’t the case with the Capital One Spark Cash for Business card. Instead, you’ll be charged 20.99% (variable) for purchases and 26.99% for cash advances from day one. The penalty APR amounts to 29.4% and may apply if you make a late payment.

Fees

The annual maintenance fee for Capital One Spark Cash for Business is $95. However, this fee is waived during the first year of ownership. What’s more, there are no balance transfer or foreign transaction fees. Cash advance fees are relatively low, at 3% of each cash transaction or at least $10. Like most other unsecured business credit cards, the Capital One Spark Cash card imposes a late payment fee of up to $39. Additional employee cards come free of charge.

Rewards

Capital One cards come with excellent rewards programs, and Spark Cash for Business is no exception. There are no special requirements – you simply get a 2% cash back on all purchases. Other card issuers may offer a better rate on specific goods, but the 2% you get here applies to any industry or product, and there is no cash limit.

As for the sign-up bonus, it’s similar to the one offered by another business credit card, the Chase Ink Business Unlimited®, but you need to spend $4,500 instead of just $3,000 within your first three months to qualify for the one-time $500 cashback reward.

Benefits and Perks

The main Spark Cash for Business benefits are geared towards travel and purchase protection. Additional features include roadside assistance, fraud alerts, $0 fraud liability, security alerts, and extended warranty.

As any renowned card provider should, Capital One has an app for its business rewards credit cards. It allows you to check your credit score, get instant purchase notifications, pay your bills, lock your credit card, and view and redeem your rewards.

3. Chase Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

  • Rewards:

Earn 3x points on the first $150,000 spent on select business purchases and unlimited 1x rewards on all other purchases

  • Welcome bonus:

100,000 bonus points once you spend $15,000 on purchases in the first three months after account opening

  • Annual fee:

    $95

  • Intro APR:

  • Regular APR:

Eligibility Requirements

Chase cards tend to favor consumers with good to excellent credit scores. To qualify for Chase Ink Business Preferred®, you should have a score of at least 690. Your chances are even better if you fall within the 740-and-above margin, but having existing Chase products or sizable annual revenue can help with a lower credit score.

APR

Unfortunately, Chase Ink Business Unlimited® isn’t among the introductory-0%-APR business credit cards. The ongoing variable APR ranges from 15.99% to 20.99% for purchases and balance transfers, while cash advances come with a 24.99% rate. If you fail to make a minimum payment by its due date or your payment returns as unpaid, you’ll face a penalty APR of up to 29.99%.

Fees

Firstly, there is a $95 annual maintenance fee that cannot be waived. Balance transfers cost either 5% or $5, while cash advances are 5% or $15, whichever is greater. There are no foreign transaction fees, but late and returned payments will both cost you $39 per item.

As one of the best business credit cards for an LLC or any other company structure, Ink Business Unlimited® offers extra employee cards that can earn rewards at the same rate as the primary account holder’s card free of charge.

Rewards

As the best travel credit card, this Chase card rewards you with 100,000 bonus points after you spend $15,000 on purchases in the first three months since account opening. This welcome bonus equals $1,000 in cash, or $1,250 if redeemed as travel rewards (the card issuer gives a 25% bonus on all travel redemptions).

When it comes to ongoing rewards, Ink Business Unlimited® is once again among the best credit cards for a business of any size. Its ongoing rewards are also pretty good – you get three points for every dollar spent on travel, advertising, shipping, and telecommunication purchases (up to $150,000 annually) and a point for every $1 spent on all other purchases, with no annual limit.

Redemption options include cash back, gift cards, and travel arrangements.

Benefits and Perks

The best credit card offers include a wealth of benefits in addition to their usual rewards, and so Chase Ink Business Unlimited® does too. On top of the best business rewards, this card also offers cell phone protection (up to $600 per incident, up to 3 times per year, with a $100 deductible), trip cancellation insurance, purchase protection (up to $50,000 per account), extended warranty on eligible purchases, and access to the Ink Mobile App for tracking spending patterns and setting up spending limits. Finally, there is the one-to-one matching point transfer for popular airline and hotel loyalty programs.

4. Capital One Spark Miles for Business

Eligibility Requirements

Much like with the Spark Cash for Business card, you’ll need a FICO score of at least 690 to have a chance of being approved for this card. Other circumstances might spice up your application, but it’s best to apply with a credit score that’s considered at least good.

APR

The variable annual percentage rate for purchases and balance transfers is 20.99%, while cash advances come with a 26.99% rate. There isn’t an introductory APR offer. Similar to other credit cards for small business owners, Capital One Spark Miles for Business charges a penalty APR of 29.4%.

Fees

Capital One Spark Miles for Business mirrors the Spark Cash for Business when it comes to ongoing upkeep and transfer costs. The annual maintenance fee of $95 is waived during the first year, and there are no foreign transaction or balance transfer fees. Using the card for cash advances will cost you 3% of each advance, or $10, whichever ends up greater. Late payments incur a charge of up to $39.

Rewards

As the name suggests, Capital One Spark Miles for Business belongs among business travel credit cards. As such, the rewards offered are mostly suited for frequent flyers and travelers. You get 50,000 miles after spending $4,500 in the first three months of account opening. The ongoing rewards are also generous – you get two miles for every dollar in purchases, and there are no limits to how many rewards you can earn.

The accumulated miles can be used to pay for flights, hotels, or vacation packages. Additionally, you can transfer the rewards to Capital One’s travel partners, such as JetBlue, British Airways, Aeromexico, and Turkish Airlines.

Benefits and Perks

Business credit cards for users who travel a lot focus on making those trips as convenient as possible. In addition to flexible redemption options, holders also get up to $100 in credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® when using their Spark Miles card.

Like other Capital One credit cards, this option comes with year-end summaries, free employee cards with spending limits, roadside assistance, $0 fraud liability, security alerts, a card-lock feature, and extended warranty on eligible purchases.

Eligibility Requirements

As is the case with a lot of other cards on our list, you need to have a good credit score to be approved. Naturally, the higher your score, the higher your approval chances. The baseline is around 690, but your FICO score is not the only factor; the card issuer will evaluate your overall financial situation, as well.

APR

A lot of people search for low-interest business credit cards online. While interest is fantastic when you’re the one accruing it, APR is something that most people would much rather avoid. Blue Business® Plus is one of several American Express cards that offer an introductory 0% APR period. After 12 months, the variable ongoing APR settles somewhere between 13.24% and 19.24%, depending on your creditworthiness and other factors. Note that there’s also a penalty APR of 29.24%.

Fees

As far as fees go, you’ll get a pretty good deal with this card. There are no annual maintenance charges, and the remaining costs are relatively low. No-annual-fee business credit cards usually have high transaction fees, but with Blue Business® Plus, you will only pay 3% or $5 per balance transfer and $2.7 for foreign transactions. Additionally, returned and late payments will cost you up to $39 per item.

Rewards

The Amex Blue Business® Plus card may not offer spectacular rewards, but it can still be great for small businesses and startups with moderate yearly expenditures.

The card offers double points for the first $50,000 spent in a year and a point per each dollar spent after that, without spending-category restrictions. These points can then be redeemed on the Amex Membership Rewards Portal for merchandise, travel, transportation, and other products and services. There are many business credit cards with rewards for spending a certain amount of money within the first few months of owning the card. Since Blue Business® Plus has no sign-up offer, doubling the points on the first $50,000 is the card’s only selling point in the rewards category.

Benefits and Perks

One of the best perks about Blue Business® Plus is its expanded buying power feature, which lets you spend beyond your credit limit each time your business needs it. As one of the best business credit cards for startups and growing companies, this Amex card also offers free additional cards for employees, access to Vendor Pay by Bill.com, a Quickbooks connection, year-end summaries, and online statements.

You can also get car-rental loss and damage insurance, an additional year of warranty on all products with existing warranties of up to five years, 90-day return protection for items that sellers refused to return and refund, and a global assistance hotline.

It’s also important to mention that American Express has easy-to-manage business credit cards thanks to its well-designed and feature-rich mobile app.

6. Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa® Card

Eligibility Requirements

Cash Wise comes with some of the toughest credit score requirements of all the cards on our list. The applicant needs a score of 700 to be considered at all, while a credit score of 730 guarantees the best results. Consumers with a FICO score of just under 700 are also likely to be considered, provided their other financial indicators are good enough. However, keep in mind that the higher your credit score, the better your variable APR will be later, and vice-versa.

APR

When searching for new business credit cards, many people look for a lower introductory annual percentage rate. The Wells Fargo Cash Wise card checks that box by offering a 0% intro APR for both purchases and balance transfers which is valid throughout the first 15 months of card membership. After the introductory period expires, users face a regular APR between 14.49% and 24.99% (variable). The APR for cash and overdraft protection advances ranges from 23.99% to 25.99%, but there’s no penalty rate.

Fees

When discussing the best business credit cards that don’t charge maintenance fees, we have to mention the Cash Wise Visa®. In addition to the lack of annual costs and a gracious APR-free period, there is also an introductory lower-fee period for balance transfers. Within the first 120 days, they cost $5 or 3% of the transaction, whichever is greater. After that, the percentage goes up to $5 or 5%. Cash advances are 5% or $10, and foreign transactions are 3%. Late and returned payments, as well as returned checks, will all cost you up to $40 per item.

Rewards

While there are better small-business credit cards in terms of rewards, this Wells Fargo card still offers a good deal. Much like with the Chase Ink Business Unlimited®, you get unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases. This card issuer also incentivizes customers to use digital payment services, such as Google and Apple Pay, by offering 1.8% cash back within the first year if you pay using one of them. Additionally, there is a $150 one-time cashback bonus for spending at least $500 within the first three months after opening your account.

As is the case with most other business cash back credit cards, the rewards don’t expire as long as you keep your Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa® account open. You can redeem your rewards for cash at Wells Fargo ATMs (in $20 increments), have them directly deposited into your Wells Fargo savings or checking account, or apply them as credit to your Wells Fargo mortgage principal balance.

Benefits and Perks

The Wells Fargo Cash Wise card comes with a variety of valuable benefits. The standout feature is mobile phone insurance, which gives you up to $600 per claim if your cell phone is lost, stolen, or damaged. There are no extra fees for this service, but it does have a $25 deductible.

As one of the top-rated small-business credit cards for new businesses and established companies alike, the Wells Fargo Cash Wise card offers round-the-clock fraud monitoring and zero-liability protection in case someone tries to make unauthorized transactions using your card. Cardmembers also get rental-car collision and damage insurance. Although there are some limitations, the coverage goes up to the cash value of the rental vehicle.

Wells Fargo’s mobile app is available with all of its cards and generally has very favorable reviews from small-business credit card users.

Eligibility Requirements

This card isn’t a good choice for fair-credit applicants. To be considered, you need to have a good or excellent credit rating, preferably above 740. While there are ways to lower this bar, you should probably steer clear of the Business Platinum card if you don’t have an above-average credit score.

APR

This is one of the best business-credit-card offers on our list in terms of APR – the US Bank Business Platinum card comes with a 0% introductory period of 15 months. After the intro period passes, the card includes a relatively low variable APR, ranging between 11.99% and 20.99% for purchases and balance transfers. The APR for cash advances is 25.99%, while the penalty rate is 29.99%.

Fees

US Bank credit cards tend to have fairly standardized fees, but the Business Platinum stands out for its lack of annual maintenance charges. Balance transfer costs are also low – you’ll pay 3% of each transaction amount or $5 (whichever is higher). The 3% or $5 for cash advances is also pretty standard when it comes to credit cards for small-business owners. Note that there’s also a 3% foreign transaction fee. Lastly, late payments will cost you up to $39 per item, while a returned payment incurs a $35 fee.

Rewards

Simply put, the US Bank Business Platinum card doesn’t have a rewards program. There are no ongoing rewards nor a sign-up bonus. On the upside, that means you won’t have to spend extra to redeem your rewards on time.

Benefits and Perks

Even though it lacks a rewards program, this card still comes with solid customer perks and handy features. The main one to mention is its excellent set of account-management and expense-tracking tools, on par with those offered by the best business credit cards for small-business owners. You can choose and even change your statement due date, manage employee cards, customize account alerts, set up autopay options, and categorize and track expenses.

There is also an Overdraft Protection plan that prevents a user’s account balance from falling below zero and triggering overdraft fees. The program ensures that transactions that would otherwise result in overdrafts and negative balances are completed while preserving your balance by linking to backup accounts. Depending on your deposit account, this service can be pretty costly, but it’s still a handy option.

Finally, as one of the best-rated business credit cards, the US Bank Business Platinum comes with a mobile app that has generally favorable reviews and allows you to track your finances on the move.

Eligibility Requirements

Brex for Startups is a unique card. Instead of judging your eligibility by your FICO credit score, the issuer is interested in the here and now: For example, how much your business can make.

Business credit cards for new businesses often offer benefits tailored to startups and small businesses, but still require at least fair or better credit scores, which can be a problem for many entrepreneurs. Still, even without credit-related conditions, Brex can be tough on those just starting: Although the FICO score goes out the window, your business still needs a hefty $50,000 standing account balance to apply.

APR

One of Brex’s astounding features is that it has no APR. We’re not talking about the industry-standard introductory 0% APR here, either – there is no ongoing APR with Brex. There’s a good reason for it, though. We’ve spoken about startup-business credit cards without mentioning charge cards, but that’s exactly what Brex is. While offering similar rewards and benefits to the other cards on our list, Brex’s – and any charge card’s – big difference is that its balance must be paid off in full every billing cycle.

Fees

There are no annual maintenance or foreign transaction fees with this card. Every cardholder is also entitled to one physical card and 10 virtual ones they can give to their employees.

Rewards

Business credit cards for bad credit owners tend to have middling rates and rewards, but with Brex, you’re getting some pretty good deals. First of all, you’ll earn 10,000 points when you spend $3,000 on Brex cards and 20,000 points when you link either an eCommerce or payroll platform to Brex and fund payroll or deposit revenue in your first three months of card membership.

As for the ongoing rewards, you get 8x points for ridesharing, 5x on travel, 4x on restaurants, 3x on eligible Apple purchases, 1.5x on ads, and 1x points on all other purchasing categories. When it comes to business credit cards for startups, only a few offer a better deal.

Benefits and Perks

One of the many things that Brex does differently is credit-limit management. As we’ve already mentioned, the key thing for your business with Brex is how well your business is doing here and now. Brex dynamically adjusts your credit limits based on your cash flow and spending patterns. This is done automatically and, depending on how well your business is doing, it can extend your credit limit way above those of traditional business credit cards for an LLC or a startup.

The list of Brex perks also includes instant payouts, expense management features, and seamless integrations with services such as Quickbooks, Xero, Gusto, Rippling, SAP Concur, Expensify, and more.

Our Methodology

Eligibility Requirements

The first thing that we consider when evaluating business credit cards is the eligibility criteria for getting one. The primary evaluation method used by most card issuers is focused on the credit rating of the business owner. When talking about credit ratings, we usually refer to Fair Isaac Corporation’s (FICO) credit score as a universally accepted measure of consumer credit risk. FICO scores typically range from 300 to 850. The 300-669 bracket is reserved for poor and fair credit ratings, while good credit ratings start at around 670.

To conclude, this category evaluates the requirements you need to meet to qualify for good business credit cards, be they related to your credit score or other financial aspects.

APR

Regardless of whether you are choosing a credit card for your company or personal use, one of your initial considerations should be the annual percentage rate (APR) you can expect. APR essentially determines the interest on your card’s outstanding balance. It is the interest rate for a whole year (annualized), rather than just a monthly fee. It is applicable in a number of instances, including loans, mortgages, and credit cards.

APR for credit cards for business can be fixed or variable, depending on many factors, including the card member’s credit score and current interest rates. Another common feature is an introductory period during which the APR is much lower or even waived completely.

In short, this category takes into account initial and ongoing APR rates, as well as the length of the introductory period.

Fees

Credit card offers typically come with two types of fees – an annual fee for maintenance and miscellaneous expenses for various services. Yearly maintenance fees may sometimes be waived, while standard running costs include foreign transaction, balance transfer, and cash advance fees. Some banks may charge for additional company cards issued to employees, while those with the best corporate credit cards may waive this charge as part of their welcome offer. Remember that banks with no annual fees may offer worse conditions to compensate for that generosity.

To sum it up, this category evaluates credit card offers based on whether they have annual maintenance fees, how much they cost and how expensive their other fees are.

Rewards

Card issuers rely primarily on various bonuses and loyalty rewards to lure and retain potential customers. The best business credit card offers include generous welcome bonuses, cash back on purchases, or redeemable points. The welcoming bonuses usually give clients a one-time cash sum for spending a certain amount of money within the first couple of months from activating their credit cards. Cashback schemes either offer flat cashback percentages for all purchases, or higher bonuses for products or services within a particular niche (IT services, office equipment, travel expenses, etc.) Finally, your redeemable points may be used for travel expenses, gift cards, and many other card-specific features.

To help you get a better understanding of business credit cards’ rewards potential, we made sure to include one-year and five-year rewards estimates in our reviews. The baseline for these estimates was a prediction that a sample small business operating in the US has approximately $25,000 in expenses that can be reasonably charged to a credit card each year.

In conclusion, this category examines potential rewards for using your credit card of choice and how easy it is to redeem those rewards.

Bonus Features

If you compare business credit cards online, you’ll see that most card issuers offer several bonus features. Their general idea is to encourage credit card owners to manage and spend their money, so expense-management and tracking tools embedded in desktop or mobile apps are a common feature. Issuing free cards to employees and allowing account owners to set specific restrictions is another common perk found with many credit cards for businesses. Other offers may include unique insurance benefits and access to premium airport lounges or hotels.

Finally, this category is all about helping you compare business credit cards in the context of additional features – from dedicated desktop or mobile apps to special offers and features unique to the card.

FAQ

What is the best credit card for a small business?

Brex for Startups. With no credit requirements or APR, it’s a fantastic option for small businesses and startups alike. Alternatively, you could go for Capital One Spark Cash for Business or American Express Blue Business® Plus. Our entire list offers excellent options, and all you have to do is check your credit score and determine whether your priority is low fees, high cashback rewards, or easy entry requirements.

Can you get a business credit card with bad credit?

In short – yes, you can. We suggest you check what Brex has to offer, as this is a rare credit card issuer that isn’t interested in your credit score at all. Other credit cards on our list require at least a good credit score. There are other cards out there that have more relaxed credit score requirements, but remember the general rule: The worse your credit rating is, the worse your terms will be.

How to apply for a business credit card?

You first need to form a company, apply for an EIN, and open up a bank account for your business. You then look for the top-rated credit cards for your particular business based on your priorities. We suggest you start working on building your credit score as soon as possible so you can get better deals on both your existing card and cards you might apply for in the future.

How do I get a credit card for my LLC?

The process is fairly simple. First, form an LLC to help separate your personal credit from that of your company, apply for an EIN, and start a business bank account. You then look for business credit cards. Our list includes good options for LLCs, small businesses, and startups alike.
